In Part 1 we looked at two of the four benefits our customers often cite as to what sets J. Gibson McIlvain apart from other lumber suppliers: our expertise and our status as an Importer of Record. While those issues are certainly significant, the next two are immensely practical, whether you’re buying domestic or exotic, familiar or new-to-you species. In the fast-paced world in which we live, where every day and every dollar really does count, we think you’ll realize the importance of these next two pride points.
Single Source
The typical contractor spends a significant amount of time placing orders and checking up on shipments for any given project. Sometimes dealing with separate suppliers is necessary, but when it comes to your lumber products, it really isn’t. When you purchase all your domestic and exotic hardwood, softwood, plywood, and millwork from a single trusted supplier, you not only save valuable time and energy, but you also ensure a better color match and a smoother production timetable.
As a full-service lumber yard, J. Gibson McIlvain provides air drying yards, drying kilns, and our own in-house millwork operations. This means that we take lumber from its green state and do everything necessary to make it into a finished product. From drying and planning to moulding and sanding, we do it all. We can even lay up panels and pre-finish your lumber before shipping it altogether, allowing you to manage a single shipment and deal with only one supplier for all your lumber needs. What’s more, you can trust our long-time reputation for consistently high quality.

Reliable Delivery
We manage every aspect of your lumber, from when it arrives on American shores (if it’s from another continent) until it gets to your job site, and that includes delivery. Rather than hiring out this aspect of the business, J. Gibson McIlvain maintains its own fleet of delivery trucks, which travel up and down the East Coast multiple times in a typical week. We also ship to other areas of the U.S., including the South, Midwest, Rockies, and West Coast.
Keeping delivery in-house allows us to control schedules, packaging, and — of course — quality. So you don’t have to worry about products getting damaged during shipping or late deliveries causing your entire schedule to get thrown off. As a single-source supplier, we also save you money by bringing all your lumber products in a single shipment.
In case you can’t tell, we’re pretty passionate about what we do. We’re almost fanatical about quality, and we might even get a bit obsessive about some things. But isn’t that what you want in a lumber supplier — someone who takes their job as seriously as you do?
